Recycle your marketing to promote your book time and time again

Recycle your marketing to promote your book time and time again

Do you want to know how to widen the audience of your media attention? Well the secret is to recycle your marketing to promote your book time and time again. What I mean by that is capitalising on an event by marketing before, during and afterwards - all at not cost to you!

Media attention is one of the easiest kinds of events to do this with. You promote the event beforehand on social media which profiles both you as the expert and the station/publication doing the interview which results in 2 things; firstly more people listening in or reading the article and secondly favour with the host or journalist so they are more likely to invite you back or do a repeat story.

Then of course you do the actual interview giving the people whatever they ask for eg. be available based on their schedule (not yours) happy to start late, run overtime etc. anything they require to make their life easier. Don't openly promote yourself (unless they ask you too which then yes you always put in a plug for you and your business) but focus on providing invaluable information; firstly because you will get a longer segment but secondly because then you have something worth recycling.

Once you have that invaluable product it about syndicating it, that is getting it out to as many people, as fast as possible for as long as possible, those who are your target market that is and the best ways to do that is as follows. Step 1 - Get a copy of the coverage and upload it to your website, Step 2 - write a blog post that ties into that so you can direct people to it, Step 3 - send a newsletter out to notify people about the blog post and Step 4 - promote the blog post on social media.

None of these techniques will cost you anything other than your time but the results from this will be invaluable to you and whatever you are promoting (your book, your business etc.) as you have now got 3 lots of exposure for the one piece of content in 4 different mediums some which are short lived but others will allow that marketing to last forever.

Let's look at a quick example of this based on the radio interview I attended yesterday. Scroll down if you would like to listen to any of the 4 segments that the interview ran for, a brief synopsis of each is underneath.

Radio Northern Beaches Segment 1 – 9:09 mins

  • The power of the ‘expert in your field’ credibility book – attracts your ideal client to you time and time again while transforming the lives of those who otherwise wouldn’t have heard of you time and time again
  • The importance of ‘pre-selling’ your book – selling your book before it exists online via your webstore and getting media attention at the same time
  • Current ebook prices + formats – what different prices work for each of the different distribution methods and what different formats work for each of the different reading devices

CLICK TO LISTEN

Radio Northern Beaches Segment 2 – 8:20 mins

  • Children’s ebooks – what’s the best process to take for this target market and how to profile your book
  • Steps to successfully publish your book – the similarities and differences between the printed and ebook and which stores to use to sell each to keep up to date with the latest technologies
  • The importance of marketing – the kind of returns you can expect if you correctly market your book opposed to just distributing it and how your book can be a business in itself

CLICK TO LISTEN

Radio Northern Beaches Segment 3 – 7:35 mins

  • What is a publishing retreat – picking The Publishing Queen’s brain about the nitty, gritty of your book and learning how to pre-sell with live results
  • Project management for the writing process – how to write a book in less than 7 days and the secrets about how to express getting your book out of you opposed to the myth of creating a polished product overnight
  • How to ‘pre-sell’ your book – the 3 ways and what to do with each

CLICK TO LISTEN

Radio Northern Beaches Segment 4 – 7:07 mins

  • Why are people currently buying more nonfiction then fiction? – a cheap way to overcome whatever you are currently struggling with paying for a coaching session verses you profiled as the expert they should go to for the coaching when/if they choose to
  • How to craft the title of your book – what makes someone pick your book up and how to capture their attention in a few short seconds
  • The current highest selling areas

Interview Transcript:

Kylee: Hi, my names Kylee and I’m The Publishing Queen and I’m here today with Lisa Snowdon from Vibrant Nutrition. Now tell me Lisa why do you think it is so important for an author to have great health?

Lisa: Well Kylee, if you learn how to eat for energy you can reduce the time it takes to write your book and you can also really maximise that creative process and just have the book fall out from you.

Kylee: Brilliant, so if someone wanted to have a book literally just fall out of them, how would they go about that from a health or nutrition point of view?

Lisa: Okay so my top 3 tips for eating for energy and just getting your whole mind really in that creative state are; firstly you want to have at least 50% of your food fresh so fruits, vegetables, salad – that’s one of the keys. The next one is to have protein as part of your snacks so nuts, avocardo, hommus, they’re really the best things to keep your energy up. And the last thing, for your dinner & lunch you want to have half your plate with salad and some fresh fruits like we already said and then a quality protein like fish that really feeds your brain.

Kylee: Brilliant and yummy too. Well that’s been really helpful Lisa but if you wanted to leave people with one thing, the most important thing as an author they need to know when they think about what they eat what would that be?

Lisa: Learn how to eat for energy really it can just be applied to so many different areas of your life not just for writing a book and you may even get your idea for a second book.

Kylee: And I like the sound of that. Well thank you for being with us here today Lisa but if people wanted to get more information such as what you have shared with them briefly today where would they go?

Lisa: They could go to my website www.vibrantnutrition.com.au and from my website they could sign up to my 7 day diet plan and through that they can get some great ideas. They can also get a free 20 min consultation to discuss with them as an individual what might work for them.

Kylee: And trust me she’s brilliant! Well thanks for being here today and remember listening to expert advice such as this truly makes self publishing as easy as 1, 2, 3!

Interview Transcript:

Kylee: Hi, my names Kylee and I’m The Publishing Queen and I’m here today with Vicki Bobosis from Your Untold Story. So tell me Vicki why do you think video marketing is so important?

Vicki: Ok, well when it comes to authors you want to be promoting your book 24/7. Now unfortunately not everybody can promote themselves 24/7 but when you’ve got a video especially on the internet you’ve got a personal sales person out there selling 24/7 to potentially millions of customers.

Kylee: Very, very true but if someone wanted to do that, if someone wanted to put their video out there on the internet how would they do that?

Vicki: Ok, essential have a video explaining what your book is about on your website, on your homepage. It’s absolutely essential, it’s become the norm, people expect to see videos on the website so that’s a great way when they are googling you they’ll find your book and then they’ll find your website and then they’ll be able to connect with you on a personal level and that’s invaluable.

Kylee: It is invaluable but if you could leave people with one, the most invaluable thing you could possibly tell people about video marketing what would that be.

Vicki: Ok, Testimonials! People can have testimonials in text, that is fantastic. People believe what they see so when you’re at your launch, even people who are reading your books, ask for a video testimonial it’s easy, it’s effective, people believe what they see.

Kylee: That they do and you’ve seen an example of that here today but Vicki if people wanted to get more expert information like you’ve shared with them where would they go?

Vicki: Ok if you would like to talk video, cause we love connecting people with video our website is www.youruntoldstory.com.au.

Kylee: Thank you Vicki and thanks for giving us a moment here today. Remember to make self publishing  as easy as 1, 2, 3 all you have to do is listen to expert advice such as this.

Interview Transcript:

Kylee: Hi, my names Kylee and I’m The Publishing Queen and I’m here today with Kaz Muddell from Mind Body Motion Fitness Solutions. Now tell me Kaz why do you think it’s so important when someone’s publishing a book to keep fit?

Kaz: I think it’s important Kylee because exercise improves your brain function and when you’re publishing a book you’re going to be using your brain quite a bit, so you are going to be thinking about the content of your book, you are going to be thinking about how to promote your book so you need your brain to be active.

Kylee: Very, very true but why is this so important, why do they want their brain to be active?

Kaz: Because they have so much work to do when they are publishing a book and you need to be able to stay awake, you need to have enough energy to be able to write your book to publish your book and you want to be healthy and well while you are doing these activities.

Kylee: That’s 100% true. Now Kaz if there was something really important that you would like to leave people with, what would that message be?

Kaz: Stay fit and healthy and you’ll be able to publish your book, promote it and do very well.

Kylee: Fantastic! Now if people wanted more of this invaluable information like they have got from you here today in this short video where would people go?

Kaz: They would contact us either on our website which is www.mindbodymotion.com.au or they could call us on 0430 052 561.

Kylee: Excellent. Thank-you very much for giving your time here today and remember with expert advice such as this publishing a book can really be as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Interview Transcript:

Kylee: Hi, my names Kylee and I’m The Publishing Queen and I’m here today with Deb Pilgrim from Deb Pilgrim.com. Now tell me Deb why do you think it’s really important when publishing a book to treat your book like a business?

Deb: Well because it is a business. People write books to either give themselves more credibility within the field of expertise that they are working in or to/and the added bonus then is to make money from that book - so it is a business.

Kylee: So why would people want to treat it like a business, just because it is a business, how can you move people from I want to write a book through to no actually I want my book to be a business?

Deb: I guess it’s coming back and looking at what was the reason they originally wrote that book and being really clear around what that reason is and from there it is identifying and working with them to then move it into that next faze where they are actually making money from their books because realistically you don’t want books sitting on the shelf.

Kylee: No you definitely don’t want that. Ok for first time author’s out there Deb what can you tell them, what’s the one thing you want to leave them with to ensure their book isn’t sitting on the shelves?

Deb: Again I would come back to be very clear about your original reason, the reason that you did write that book and from there put in place a step-by-step process that takes you from the original working with you to write the book to that actually being able to sell the book and even further from selling that book as ideally what it does do is build your credibility so you want to actually feed off that and be really clear around what that marking plan is at that end product.

Kylee: Very True. So if people wanted more details on how they could get expert advice from people such as yourself or on how to get that ideal marketing plan where would they go?

Deb: Well they could visit my website it’s www.debpilgrim.com and on my site I have a lot of information there that helps people come back to that basic process of marketing so when I work with individuals it’s really bringing it back to that step-by-step process that’s practical and results driven.

Kylee: Fantastic – we all love those step-by-step processes. Well thank-you very much for your time here today Deb.

Deb: Thank-you.

Kylee: And remember listening to expert advice such as this really makes book publishing as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Interview Transcript:

Kylee: Hi my name's Kylee and I am The Publishing Queen. I am here today with Meredith Collins from Video Social Marketing. So tell me Meredith why is social marketing so important?

Meredith: Social Media is probably the newest marketing medium on the market, and just like 10 or 15 years ago email marketing became really important, so social media is taking a place as a spoke in people's marketing wheels in business.

Kylee: Interesting! So what do you think made this change?

Meredith: I think the advent of the internet, generally that over 90% of people in this country alone, Australia are online and between 80 to 90% of people research anything that they buy, and one of the great things about social media its give people what we call 'Social Proof' or 'Social Creditability' because the market place are actually interacting socially with our brand and with what we do.

Kylee: Excellent! So if someone out there wanted to publish a book, what would you tell them in-regards to social marketing?

Meredith: Often my experience with people who are either in small business or budding authors and are starting out. Very often we don't have big budgets, and social media when done really well is free, it doesn't cost any money, so that is a great way to take your product to market. But also social media is about building rapour and about creating a relationship with people and creating value. So straight away if you got You Tube videos or a Facebook page or your twittering, it gives people the opportunity for people to get to know you as a person and as a author, and find out more about the value you have to add or the book that you have written

Kylee: Excellent! So if people wanted to get more about information about his specifically or more of your expert information, where is a place they could go?

Meredith: I'd love them to go to my website www.videosocialmarketing.net or of course you can find me on my Facebook page, facebook.com/videosocialmarketing or you could find out more about me Meredith Collins on LinkedIn.

Kylee: Excellent! Well thank you for time here today Meredith. I hope you guys got heaps out of this video and remember listening to advice such as this truly makes self publishing easy as 1, 2, 3!

Interview Transcript:

Kylee: Hi, my names Kylee and I am The Publishing Queen, and I am here today with Glenn Kirkwood, also known as 'That Referral Guy'. Now Glenn happens to own numerous BNI chapters across NSW, but Glenn tell me why do you think referrals are so important?

Glenn: Well Kylee, there are only four ways to get business: Public relations is a great way, networking or word of mouth which most people have heard of. Cold calling, that c-o-l-d calling and also advertising.

Kylee: So why do you think referrals is the best way to do that?

Glenn: Generally speaking they have a lot better conversion rate, but they start out with people already having a problem that needs someone else to fix it, and thats with a referral. So if you know someone you can put them in contact with one another. They're generally very inexpensive and in most cases free, so even just those three things: conversion rate, the problem already exists so your speaking to your target market and the cost is way down.

Kylee: Excellent! So why would someone out there thinking of writing a book want to have a referral, how can that benefit them?

Glenn: Well, I attended last years seminar that Kylee put on and I definitely recommend to anybody in business, the sooner you listen to the experts the more success that you'll have and I attended last years seminar and within six months of attending that seminar, I've co-authored in a book. The techniques that I learnt in the seminar about how to construct the book, thinking about the whole lot of different types of processes, just made the whole process for me a lot easier and there was different ways to write a book. So I highly recommend going along to one of the seminars, if you put them on again. So if you encourage her and get enough people she will put one on again.

Kylee: Thanks Glenn. Well thanks so much for being with us today, but if anyone would like to get some more juice on referrals from you where would they go?

Glenn: Well, I share a weekly networking tip each Friday and if people go to the website www.bniteam.com.au they could subscribe to our networking tip. There is a action step that gets put out with the tip each week.

Kylee: Fantastic! Well thanks once again for your time today Glenn and remember if you want to get more information like this check out the numerous videos that are available on the website. But remember listening to experts such as Glenn, self publishing really will be as easy as 1, 2, 3!
